Vimshottari dasha: reading a timeline without false certainty
A plain guide to mahadasha, antardasha and the difference between calculated period dates and predictions about life.
What a dasha timeline shows
Vimshottari dasha is a traditional sequence of planetary periods. A mahadasha is a major period. An antardasha is a smaller period within it. MyAstroChat calculates their dates from the birth details and its stated calculation method.
A boundary is not an event
The start of a period is a date returned by a calculation. Saying that a business must succeed or a marriage must happen on that date is a different claim. The timeline alone does not establish that claim. A careful reading keeps calculated dates separate from interpretations.
Read the whole chart
Traditional interpretation considers what a period lord rules and where it sits in the natal chart. The same planet does not have the same meaning for everyone. Career questions also need career evidence. Transits can add context, but should not replace the underlying period sequence.
Why answers can change
A corrected birth time or calculation setting can change a timeline. New life context can change a practical suggestion. Neither is a reason to silently rewrite the earlier answer. Ask which input, returned fact or interpretation changed. If the earlier statement was wrong, the guide should correct it plainly.
Use dates to ask useful questions
Ask which periods are running, which chart factors support the interpretation and what evidence points the other way. You can then use the reading as a prompt for reflection and planning. Real decisions still need information about your finances, responsibilities, relationships and available choices.
