Kundli matching: what Guna Milan can and cannot tell you
Understand the eight Ashtakoota factors, the 36-point total, Manglik checks and why a marriage score is not a probability.
Start with two accurate charts
Marriage matching compares two birth charts. MyAstroChat has a separate Marriage match screen: choose two saved people, confirm their order and calculate. The North Indian method uses traditional groom and bride roles. The app asks you to choose those roles rather than inferring them from names.
Eight factors, 36 points
Ashtakoota, also called Guna Milan, assigns points to Varna, Vashya, Tara, Yoni, Graha Maitri, Gana, Bhakoot and Nadi. Their maximum points add to 36. The result shows each factor so you can see how the total was formed. It is not an AI-created compatibility percentage.
What the total does not measure
A score of 27 out of 36 does not mean a 75 percent chance of a good marriage. The points belong to a traditional rule system. They do not measure trust, consent, communication, shared values or safety. A higher total is not a guarantee. A lower total should not be treated as a verdict on either person.
Look beyond one number
The report also shows the Manglik conditions under the app's stated method. Traditions differ on exceptions and on how much weight each factor should receive. Use the breakdown to ask better questions about the charts, rather than treating one number as the whole relationship.
Birth-time limits matter
The Moon can cross a sign or nakshatra boundary during a day. MyAstroChat withholds a definite matching score when a birth time is unknown or approximate. Confirm the input before relying on a score. Chart matching is a cultural way to reflect together, alongside practical conversations about life.
